Since an early age, I have been experimenting with my fascination for the figurative as a concept; more specifically the body, human identity, fashion and interaction.
At the age of three, I began making dolls, an investigation that has continued to evolve throughout my life. My teenage work included dolls of various sizes and materials, often becoming abstract through a loss of human form, revealing the inanimate vs. the animate. The largest of these was a life-size torso baring internal flashing lights, presented at Young Art in Switzerland when I was 19.
Later, during my years studying in the fashion department at Central St Martins College of Art & Design in London, I went on to do performance related work that incorporated both myself and others. After college, I worked in the fashion industry where I became interested in fashion as a concept reaching beyond the body. Parallel to this experience in the fashion world, I furthered my artistic practice; examining the relationship in particular between myself, my body and my identity in the form of painting and drawing and the relevance of orchestrated identity.
In the last six years, I have returned to performance related interactive art, including video and text based work. Through this multi-media approach, I continue to search for new ways to explore and engage with my subject evolving around the meaning of the figure as autobiographical but also as a contemporary projection in the context of its environment.
My diverse investigations reveal on many levels, universal questions around the hybridity of identity and the increasing blurring of categorizations, boundaries and lack of traditional identifications.
